2015/10/02

The honorable Premier Wayne, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:

On this festive occasion of the 66th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, we are so excited to get together here to take part in the Chinese national flag raising ceremony. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto, I would like thank the Ontarian provincial government, the provincial legislative and all the distinguished guests for joining us for this important event. I would also like express my warmest greetings and best wishes to the local Chinese community and all the students in the Greater Toronto Area.

Sixty-six years after the founding of the People Republic of China and especially in the past 30 years since the implementation of the policies of reform and opening up to the outside world, China has grown to become the second largest economy in the world from a poor and backward country, with earth-shaking changes. China now enjoys political stability, its economy is constantly developing, the living standard of the people is continuously improving. The Chinese nation is right on the path to the great rejuvenation by working hard to realize the Chinese dream. This year also marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Canada. Fruitful results have been achieved in various fields in the cooperation and exchange between our two countries, which has brought tangible benefits to both sides. China has become Canada's second largest trading partner, the largest source of foreign students and fastest growing tourism market. The prospects for further strengthening of bilateral relations between China and Canada are bright and promising.

Ontario is Canada's very important province in term of economy. We attach a great importance to the friendly exchanges with Ontario. The bilateral cooperation in economy and trade, science and technology, education and culture and other areas is developing rapidly. This year coincides with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of sister province relations between China's Jiangsu Province and the Province of Ontario. There will be series of celebrations. The delegation of 8 mayors from Ontario has just visited China this September. Mr. Luo Zhijun, Party-Secretary of the Jiangsu Province, will visit Ontario in October. Premier Wayne will visit China again in November this year. I believe that, through our joint efforts, the friendly cooperation between China and Ontario will achieve even greater progress in the future.

On this occasion, I would like to thank the overseas Chinese for their unique role in promoting China-Canada relations. They have also made great contributions to the economic and social development of China over the past six decades. Over the years, the Chinese Community in the Greater Toronto area have actively promoted exchanges and cooperation between China and Canada. They has become strong bridges linking our two countries.

The Chinese Consulate General in Toronto is ready to continue to strengthen cooperation and exchanges with the local Chinese community in the consular area by following the principle of “putting people first”, so as to further promote the friendly relations of cooperation between China and Canada .

Finally, I would like to propose a toast, May the People’s Republic of China and Canada great progress and prosperity, their peoples happiness. May China and Canada enjoy everlasting friendship. Wish all the guests present here this afternoon good health and happiness. Thank you.
