Remarks of the Spokesperson of the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto on Some Canadian Media’s Report of Interference by China in Canadian Federal Elections
2023-02-16 06:48

Over the past days, some Canadian media sensationalized in its report that China interfered in Canadian federal elections and slandered consular officers from the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto as “suspected intelligence actor”. Such allegation was absolutely groundless and fictitious. We express strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to it.

The Chinese Consulate General in Toronto has performed its consular functions in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and bilateral consular agreement between China and Canada, for the purpose of promoting friendly exchanges and tangible cooperation between China and provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. The above has been highly commended by friends from all walks of life in our consular district.

We urge relevant Canadian media to comply with their professional ethics, stop spreading misinformation and smearing the Consulate General and its staff, take more solid actions to create favorable conditions for bringing China-Canada relationship back on track, rather than making troubles and obstacles.
